If you experience breathing disorders while you sleep, such as sleep apnea, your medical specialist may prescribe the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device. A CPAP machine keeps your airways open while you sleep through the use of mild air pressure. Several CPAP devices exist on the market to provide sleep therapy. Released in August 2022, ResMed AirSense 11, or S11, is one of the newer such machines. Keep reading for an overview of ResMed’s latest model.

Main Retained Features of the ResMed AirSense 11

Designed particularly for new users, the ResMed 11 includes the top features of the former model, the ResMed AirSense 10, along with enhanced features and capability.

Major similarities between the two models include:

  • Variable pressure settings
  • Integrated humidifier
  • Heated humidifier
  • Built-in heating hose
  • Quiet operation
  • Ramp functionality
  • Therapy data tracking
  • Battery backup

ResMed 11 further builds on the popularity and success of the highly-rated previous model.

ResMed 11 vs ResMed 10

When comparing the two models, new and improved features of the S11 include:

The sleeker design of the ResMed 11 is more aesthetically pleasing to many users. The menu is more user friendly and easier to navigate. Many users find the horizontal touchscreen easier to view and use than the vertical design of the ResMed 10. The display screen is angled to be easier to view. There’s a single button on the top of the device to turn it on or off.

If you’re particularly sensitive to light while trying to sleep, you’re sure to appreciate the auto-dimming lights of the S11’s touch screen. You can see to start your therapy when going to bed, then the lights dim automatically for greater comfort and reduced brightness.

The device’s test drive feature is especially useful for those new to sleep therapy and sleep apnea, helping them learn how to use the machine and customize their sleep therapy to match their individual needs.

Size and Weight

ResMed’s AirSense 11 is more compact than the previous version. While the CPAP machine’s length of 10.21 inches is slightly longer than the 10.04 inches of the previous model, the height and width are reduced.

The AirSense 11 weighs 0.25 pounds less than its predecessor, weighing in at 2.5 pounds against the AirSense 10’s 2.75 pounds. This weight decrease makes the AirSense 11 easier to move and transport.

Operating Altitude

The AirSense 11 can be used at a greater maximum altitude of 9,870 feet, compared with 8,500 feet for RedMed’s older model. This makes it more suitable if you live in or travel to areas of higher elevation.

Energy Efficiency

The ResMed AirSense 11 operates using 65-watt AC power. In comparison, the AirSense 10 functions using a 90-watt AC power supply. Practically, this means that the newer CPAP machine uses less electricity to run. It’s more energy efficient, which is kinder for the environment and can help to reduce electricity consumption and bills.

Both models have battery backup functionality, with several compatible battery types, to keep machines working in case of power loss.

Two-in-One for Men and Women

The previous model had separate machines for men and women. This could limit options for resale and reuse. The newer model, however, has built-in settings to change the machine for her or for him. This upgraded therapy mode is integrated into the device’s algorithm, making your CPAP machine suitable for both sexes.

Personal Therapy Assistant and Care Check-In

The newer S11 has enhanced integration with the myAir application. The Personal Therapy Assistant provides useful instructional user videos and Care Check-In offers personalized support, guidance and assistance for new users to make sleep therapy more successful.

Remote Assist and Bluetooth Connectivity

The Remote Assist feature provides access to pertinent therapy information from any location, allowing you to easily share data with your healthcare team. Bluetooth connectivity ensures that your CPAP machine gets all software updates in a timely manner, allowing it to operate at its peak.
